Become a Foster Home
At Venus Community Cats, our goal is to control the population of stray and feral cats in our local area and provide a better life for these cats, whenever possible. Because we work with community cats, most of the cats that find their way into our care require varying amounts of socialization before they can be adopted out to forever homes. As such, fostering Venus Community Cats takes a strong commitment.
Fostering often involves a great deal of patience. Foster homes must be able to provide a safe space for foster cats that allows them to heal, grow and learn to trust humans, before finding a permanent home.
What you will need to provide:
- Daily care including feeding, cleaning litter along with play and grooming for the foster cat(s).
- Help in socializing, to ready the cat for adoption.
- It takes a significant amount of daily interaction to care for a foster animal, sometimes for weeks or months. Your time is a precious gift you give to the cats.
- You will need a dedicated room or quiet area to provide a safe low stress environment.
- It is best if everyone in your household agrees with the idea of fostering.
What Venus Community Cats can provide:
- We will support your efforts by working with you to determine your needs.
- You decide if you will foster specific cats …. maybe you have experience with feral cats or would prefer a mother and kittens. You decide.
- We will do our best to help with food, but you may have to feed the foster cat(s) and provide litter.
- If there are medical issues we will take the cat to the vet and cover the costs.
- We will have the cat(s) neutered or spayed.
- We will actively seek permanent homes.
- If at any time fostering no longer becomes an option for you, given a reasonable time frame, we will remove the cat(s) to another foster home … no questions asked.
